Toulouse's Initiative for Research Impact on Society
The TIRIS project, winner of the PIA4 ‘ExcellencES’ programme, is mobilising Toulouse's scientific excellence to support change and help shape the world of tomorrow.
Engaging science to address the major challenges of the 21st century
Building on the site’s strengths, the TIRIS project has identified 3 priority themes, the site’s scientific signature and the pillars of the scientific community’s action and commitment with and for society.
Health & well-being
Living well means living in good health at all ages, benefiting from a healthy diet, a favourable environment and socio-economic conditions, and an efficient healthcare system.
Global Changes & Impacts
Mobilise to address the consequences of human activities on climate change, ecosystems, the environment and society, which are at the heart of the global scientific debate.
Sustainable transitions
The major challenges facing society require profound and rapid transformations in consumption and production, and the adaptation of mobility at all levels.
TIRIS is the interdisciplinary programme of the University of Toulouse for the Toulouse site. TIRIS has four main programmes of targeted actions. Research, Education, Innovation and Science and Society: Toulouse’s scientific excellence is mobilised in all its diversity to support change and help build the world of tomorrow.
This multifaceted approach is the guarantee of the Toulouse community’s commitment to the transformation of the site and a collective dynamic in the service of the common good.
Stimulate new interdisciplinary research and attract new talent to address the major challenges of the 21st century.
Innovation
Fostering the emergence, incubation and consolidation of partnership-based innovation projects with a societal impact and demonstrators to accelerate change.
Training
Developing new interdisciplinary courses to meet the major challenges facing society, technology and science.
Science & Society
Develop a shared culture and solutions co-constructed with non-academics to meet socio-eco-environmental challenges.
Boosting attractiveness and excellence for tomorrow
En s’articulant avec les autres dynamiques du site, existantes ou à venir, et qui sont chacune plutôt largement ancrées dans des champs scientifiques spécifiques, TIRIS développe des dispositifs transverses pour bâtir une signature académique attractive de niveau international.
An academic and institutional project led by the University of Toulouse
TIRIS is a collaborative project, led by the University of Toulouse, which brings together and federates the region’s scientific excellence. With 19 founding members including higher education establishments and research bodies, the project aims to experiment with new ways of doing research with and for society.
