The founding partners: a collective project for the site and the region
TIRIS is a collaborative project, led by the University of Toulouse, which brings together and federates the region’s scientific excellence. With 19 founding members including higher education establishments and research bodies, the project aims to experiment with new ways of doing research with and for society.
Winner of the ‘ExcellencES’ Programme d’Investissement Avenir, TIRIS is funded by the French government and the Occitanie Pyrénées-Méditerranée region.
All the members involved share the same objective: to create an academic site of international excellence committed to working with and for society, to support change and help build the world of tomorrow.

The University of Toulouse: a complete ecosystem to foster transitions
The University of Toulouse, the lead institution for TIRIS, brings together 15 higher education institutions in the Toulouse region and is supported by 7 national research bodies. The Toulouse academic community – one of the largest in France – is recognised for its very high scientific standards, both nationally and internationally. The University of Toulouse has an exceptional capacity for education and research throughout the western part of the Occitanie region.
Anchored in its region, the University of Toulouse draws on the strengths and resources of the region to develop research areas, training courses, innovation programmes and interaction with and for society about societal issues. Involved in national and international projects, it contributes to the visibility and attractiveness of the Toulouse site on a global scale.
