Toulouse Initiative for Research Impact on Society – TIRIS
The TIRIS project, winner of the PIA4 ‘ExcellencES’ programme, is mobilising Toulouse’s scientific excellence to support change and help build the world of tomorrow.
TIRIS: interdisciplinarity at the service of transitions
The TIRIS (Toulouse Initiative for Research’s Impact on Society) programme, a winner of the ExcellencES programme, brings together the higher education and research community in Toulouse and the surrounding region around a common objective: to mobilise scientific excellence, by promoting interdisciplinarity, to support major transitions and build the world of tomorrow.
Supported by the Toulouse Community of Universities and Colleges, TIRIS plays a key role in the development of an internationally renowned research university. It is based on three main thematic pillars: health and well-being, the impact of global change on societies, and sustainable transitions.
To meet today’s challenges, TIRIS is deploying four action programmes: research, education, innovation, and science and society, encouraging collaboration between the major fields of science and new ways of working together. A number of calls for projects and schemes have been set up to support these initiatives.
3 thematic pillars
Drawing on the site’s strengths, the TIRIS project has identified 3 priority themes, the site’s scientific signature and the pillars of the scientific community’s action and commitment with and for society.

4 action programmes
TIRIS is an interdisciplinary programme dedicated to transitions. Spearheaded by the Toulouse Community of Universities and Colleges, it brings together experts from a wide range of fields to support transitions, help build a sustainable and inclusive future and respond to the major challenges of tomorrow.
Through four targeted action programmes: research, education, innovation, science & society, TIRIS highlights Toulouse’s scientific excellence in all its forms.
